Why a Camping Checklist Is Important
That is why a camping checklist is so useful – it helps you focus your mind and decide exactly what you need, and what to leave at home. You check items off as you pack them, and then you can leave home confident in the knowledge that you haven't forgotten anything.
Existing Supplies
When making your camping checklist, take an inventory of any supplies you may already own. This is going to help you save money. Sure, it’d be nice to get all new stuff but if your current equipment isn’t defective, and it all works perfectly, whether it’s new or old isn’t going to matter once you’re actually out there camping. If you need to buy supplies, the checklist will help you keep to your budget.
Camping On a Budget
Once you know what you have and what you need to buy, you should work out what kind of budget you have available. Price up the equipment you need by browsing a few web sites, and make a list. It is a good idea to check online prices even if you intend to buy from a store, as you will have some idea of what price you can expect to pay before you reach the store, and will know if you are getting a good deal or not. Remember to only buy what you need – anything extra will likely be either a waste of money, or a waste of space in your backpack. Your priorities should be your own warmth, safety, and the ability to prepare some food.
A Camping Schedule
Some people take checklists to the next level, and continue their packing list with a list of things to do once they arrive at their camping spot. The idea behind this kind of list is that it gives you an idea of what to do when, so you are reminded to pitch a tent, start a fire, cook meals at a certain time of day, put out the fire and make sure it is fully extinguished before moving to the next spot, etc. If you think this kind of list is a good idea, then try it, if you prefer to 'wing it' then go ahead – it is your camping trip, after all.
Camping is all about getting away from city life and enjoying nature again. A camping checklist helps you enjoy all of the benefits nature has to offer, without having to spend money you do not need or waste time or energy on packing and carrying things you will not use. It may seem boring and overly organized, but try it – it will save you a lot of hassle.
