Easier Packing With Camping Lists
To avoid packing too much, and spending your vacation tired and stiff from carrying it all, you can make a camping list of things you know you will need. Be ruthless, make a list, and stick to it. Your trip will be much more enjoyable as a result.
Lists Can Save You Money
You’ll also want to make sure you have a budget set aside for your list. This is assuming that you don’t already own the camping equipment. If you’re going shopping for the camping equipment, however, you’ll want to shop around to make sure you are getting the best deals. Most people choose camping as a vacation because they don’t have to spend a lot of money. Getting good deals on your camping list items will help you save money while still enjoying the vacation of a lifetime.
The first item on the list should be a good tent. Pick one that is the right size for you and your party. Don't take a four man family tent if you are going solo, but don't pick a tent that is too small if you'll be camping in a group. Make sure the tent is appropriate for the place you are going – you want it to be able to protect you from the elements, and stand up to any conditions you will put it through.
The next items on your camping list should be for the purpose of catching food, cooking food and preparing food. Then, you’ll want to either carry water with you or you may want to bring a water purifier for cleaning water you find while you’re out there. The smart move would be to take both as you never know when you’ll find water.
You may need some other essentials such as a knife, something to start a fire with, and a compass – it depends where you are going. If you will be staying at a camping and caravan park, and never venturing out into the wilderness, then a compass is superfluous, for example. Think about what you will need, and try not to get carried away adding things that you will never use.
When you are packing, tick off items as you put them away. Don't let yourself be tempted to throw in items that aren't in the list. Put them to one side, finish packing, and see how the bag feels – you may be surprised at how bulky even just the essentials can be. If you do find you have space left, maybe then you can add other items – but stick to the list first of all – your muscles will thank you for it!

I try to follow this advice, really I do - but I never manage. I always take far too much with me when I go on fishing trips - you'd think you'd need a tent, sleepingbag, stove, wellies, and fishing rod + bait right? Well somehow I always end up taking so much junk - cameras, books, a PSP and DS to play on (why I take both I don't know) mp3 player, spare batteries - one day I'll learn to leave that stuff behind - I'm fishing…. all I need is one book really :/
