Camping Ideas: Safety and Comfort First

Camping is a great pastime, and one that many people – from student travelers to families, love to engage in.  The feeling of getting away from it all, and spending some time close to nature, is a wonderful one.  You should always remember that just because you are out in the wilderness, you do not have to be uncomfortable, or make too many sacrifices.

The following are some camping ideas and tips that will help you get the most out of your camping trip – combining home comforts with the 'at one with nature' feeling of camping, whilst still making sure that you are safe on your camping trip.

Keep Your Camping Area Clean

Wild animals have a great nose for food – so once you have finished your meal, clean the camping area – don't leave wasted food lying around to attract the animals, and don't leave empty containers lying around either.  Some animals, while they look cute and cuddly, carry diseases such as rabies that can be fatal in humans if left untreated.  Even if the animals themselves are not dangerous to us, our rubbish could be dangerous to them if they choke on it or get tangled up in it, so don't leave anything to chance, just dispose of everything properly.

Another great camping idea to make you and others feel safer is that to conduct a buddy system where you have to be partnered with someone to be around you all of the time so as not to lose each other.  This kind of system works well for adult travelers, but if you have children with you, make sure that they are always with an adult – even on a private camping ground, there are still risks – you do not know every single person on the grounds, after all.  So don't take chances, tell your children not to wander off without an adult accompanying them.

Finally, if you are staying in a camp ground that has facilities such as showers or portable bathrooms, then it is worth taking advantage of those facilities when you can.  Just make sure that you wear flip flops with grips while you are in there – for comfort purposes, and to make sure that you do not slip.  Take spare shoes with you too just in case a pair goes missing – you don't want to end up having to trek back barefoot.
