Why Stay in a Caravan Instead of a Tent?
Camping trailers offer a lot more space than tents, and are perfect for storing all of your equipment in between trips too. You can also take trips in a camping trailer during less favorable weather that would make camping in a tent uncomfortable.
This certainly makes life easier when it comes to packing up your car to go camping – you’ll have a lot more boot space available for taking everything else you need with you.
Camping Trailers Are Spacious
The size of a camping trailer is a big bonus – even the medium sized ones usually offer two sets of dedicated sleeping quarters, and the living areas can usually be converted to double as a bedroom too, with tables and sofas that can be unfolded into beds.
A camping trailer also scores more points over a tent because you can if necessary sleep four more people underneath the beds that fold out from the trailer as it is erected. All you need is a groundsheet and a double airbed in each one.
Alternatively these areas provide ample storage for the belongings you will no doubt need to find room for.
The Disadvantages of Camping Trailers
A camping trailer is not perfect for all sizes of camping party. If you want to be mobile, and move around lots of different sites, a trailer may just get in your way. A big trailer may be too much for a solo traveler – requiring more heating, cleaning, and maintenance than a tent.
Like all tents, trailers do come in different sizes. You may find the smallest trailer is more than adequate for your needs.
A camping trailer gives you the chance to use things such as a camping portaloo, although unless you are using a fixed plumbing loo at a dedicated camp site, this means that you will have to deal with the not so nice job of keeping the portaloo clean and disinfected.
Pitch fees at camp sites are usually a lot more expensive for a camping trailer than they are for a tent. How much of a problem this is depends on how much value you place on the extra size and comfort that a camping trailer offers.
Only you can decide how you prefer to spend your camping time. Some people like feeling closer to the elements, and enjoy the freedom a small tent, bedroll, and their own leg power offers them. Others like to take a RV, caravan or camping trailer, and spend the time in a little mini-home out in the countryside.
