Compact Camping Trailers: The Best Of Both Worlds

What is camping really all about?  Depriving yourself of basic modern facilities and comforts while you "rough it" all well long or  enjoying the great outdoors in a way that it most comfortable and pleasurable for you?  There are many  people who find it hard to understand why anyone would want to camp with all the amenities and luxuries of modern civilization around them.   But sometimes the only way you can get to see the outdoors is by using compact camping trailers.  For instance, if you want to camp in winter, compact camping trailers are pretty much a necessity.

Compact camping trailers are also good for those who have to do a lot of traveling to fairs, conventions or festivals.  If you spend a lot of time camping, are infirm or on the road a lot, then you should consider compact camping trailers rather than staying at hotels.  It the most cost effective and comfortable way to travel.

Exactly How "Compact" Is Compact?

The choices and options vary widely.  On the one hand, there  are many "light" compact camping trailers that can be towed by just about any car.  For instance, the “teardrop trailer”, which is literally shaped like a teardrop on its side.   This is one of the most popular kinds of compact camping trailers.

Many compact camping trailers offer not just shelter and a bed, but also cooking facilities.  They’re a very little home on wheels.  The big advantage is that you can sleep on a mattress rather than on the ground.  For some people, they can’t risk trying to sleep on the ground.

Are There Any Additional Features?

For anyone whose budget permits,  a variety of compact camping trailers with  lots of bells and whistles are available.  These additional features include  air conditioning, roof rack and a television.  Some of these extras can be run from your car’s battery, but do you really want to risk draining it to watch American Idol or some popular TV game show?  These extra features do not come cheaply. Even the basic models will cost you six figures.  Of course, there is always the possibility of getting a loan.

A Final Option: Folding Camping Trailers

Another option are the new folding compact camping trailers that are now out on the market.  They are sort of like the Ikea cabinet of compact camping trailers.  They are often made of a wood frame, a metal tow bar, plastic siding, all stuck on wheels.  Depending on the size and brand, some things will indeed fold up or out, such as a side porch.  Most of the time they are already put together, but sometimes some DIY ( do it  yourself)  is required.  Unfortunately,  you can’t fold them up small enough to stick in your backpack.  If that is what you are looking for, then you can buy a  tent.  And having a tent kind of defeats the purpose of having a compact camping trailer, wouldn't you agree?
