Camping Just Outside Northern Illinois: A World Of Wonder & Beauty

Several years back, the Illinois Office of Tourism was encouraging more visitors to visit  the area by using the slogan, “Just outside Chicago is a place called Illinois.”   Clearly this promotion campaign was a slamming success because Illinois is a booming vacation hot spot.  In  particular, you can expect exciting and beautiful camping grounds in the northern areas. Here are some tips to have a great camping trip.

Camping  Outside Northern Illinois: A Preferred Vacation Idea

A lot of local residents prefer camping in Illinois since it can save a lot on vacation expenses. They don’t have to spend too much on gas, they can stay a few days longer because of the convenient location plus they find the sceneries and experience very satisfactory. Aside from camping  outside northern Illinois, there are a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy such as fishing, hiking and picnicking.

The private sector in the state of Illinois features several lodges, resorts and camping sites complete with amenities, facilities and fun-filled activities. The public sector has several state parks and recreation areas as well. The Illinois Department of Conservation oversees operations and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service take care of the facilities and the. Counties throughout Illinois ensure that recreation facilities and agencies function well for all willing campers.

Introduction To The Area

In the state of Illinois, there are around 400 campgrounds plus around 50,000 campsites owned by the private and public sectors. The numbers were based from a study conducted by the Office of Recreation and Park Resources at the University of Illinois. Only 12 counties in Illinois do not have indicated campgrounds based on the graphic map detailing campground distribution in the state. Northern Illinois has the most number of campsites at 17,386 but only 3,624 of these are owned by the public sector. There are 163 sites per campground in the northern area. Although the majority is owned by the private sector, most of these are available for all individuals.

With such an abundance of campgrounds and campsites to choose from, finding your prefect camping spot outside Illinois should be as easy as a walk in the park.  Happy camping!
